Mailchimp
- You may wish to add a new Audience, or add new fields to an existing one
- Consider your Audience Fields and Merge Tags
- Add a field for Constituent ID, make sure this is set up as a text field and is hidden from the user so they can’t see it or change it on their profile page.
- Create fields for any data you are bringing over from RE that you plan to use to personalise emails (e.g. Title, last gift amount, etc.). and make these hidden.
- Create fields for any data you want to expose to your users for updates (e.g. physical address, you can then ask them to update these fields in Mailchimp and bring those updates back into RE using Chimpegration).
- Consider your Groups, you can use these to create your Preference Center in Mailchimp and synch that data with RE as a Consent, Custom Field or Cons Code. So you may want to use Groups to allow contacts to sign up to certain types of email, let you know how they can be contacted, how they heard about you , or what areas of your work they are interested to support.
- You may want/need to add GDPR fields but note that you cannot use these alongside the preference center so do consider both. Using the GDPR fields alone does not make you GDPR compliant.
- Tags are not visible to your contacts so you can use these for segmentation, you can select an existing one or create a new one in Chimpegration so you don’t have to do this in advance.
Raiser’s Edge
Mailing results
- If using Actions, you may want to set up Action Custom Fields (all should be text types) for
- Opens
- Clicks
- Campaign ID (one only allowed)
- Campaign Name (or you can set up a notepad type for Campaign Name)
Consider your RE Email Set-up
- Mailchimp has a natural limit of one email address per user, whereas Raiser’s Edge allows multiple email addresses per record. We recommend having a dedicated Phone Type just to use with email marketing/Mailchimp and limit it so that only one email address is sent to Mailchimp per record and vice-versa. After all, if someone has several active email addresses on their RE record, do you really need to send the same email to the same person multiple times?
- We also suggest creating new Phone Types for Hard Bounces, marked as spam, and Unsubscribed so you better understand why you shouldn’t add them to Mailchimp.
- If you have records in RE that share the same email address, consider how best to manage those records in Mailchimp: See this User Guide
